A standard website will have at least five pages: a homepage, a services page, a contact page, a blog or news page, and an about page.
Each page of your website is important and has a specific role to play in speaking to your clients.
Today, we’re talking about your ‘About Me’ page, why it’s so important and how to write one that your clients will love.
People prioritise liking who you are as an individual just as much as they prioritise your skills and experience.
Think about it: you want a cup of coffee and you find a cafe, it’s got an amazing sounding menu, great decor and free WIFI, and you go to order your cappuccino only to be met with the stand-offish, rude and just plan unlikeable owner.
Would you stay? Maybe…because, let’s face it, turning around and walking out would be awkward, plus you really need that cup of coffee.
But would you go back? Would you tell your friends?
The answer is, you probably wouldn’t go back. And you would definitely be more likely to tell your friends to avoid that particular cafe than to recommend it.
Every single day, customers make the not-so-little decision to invest their hard-earned money into businesses like mine and yours.
Maybe they need a copywriter to help them stand out from the competition. Maybe they need a wedding photographer. Or maybe they just need a cup of coffee.
The point is, if we want to ensure that our potential clients pick us, we need to get them to like us. Before they can start to decide if they like us, they need to know us.
Knowing leads to liking leads to trusting leads to business.
And that’s why your ‘About Me’ page is so important: it’s one of the only opportunities to let your clients get to know you.
Remember when I spoke about conversational copywriting? Well, your ‘About Me’ page is one of the best places to use this type of copy. You need to let some personality in and lift the veil so that your potential customers and clients can begin to connect with you.
